My Story
My movement journey started on the pole. In 2013 my maid of honor organized a pole party for my bachelorette party which was a bit of a joke because I was extremely shy and reserved – both physically and in my personality. As it turns out, from the first moment of our warmup where I was given permission just “be” in my body, I was completely hooked.
Though I had participated in gymnastics when I was young, I otherwise had no dance, movement, or flexibility training as an adult.
My straddle/pancake was 90 degrees and my head was nowhere near the ground. My front splits were a foot off the ground. Over the last 10 years, I have personally trained my own flexibility under a variety of different instructors and different training styles. I know that flexibility can be achieved as an adult and I love taking all the different teaching styles and techniques that I have both experienced and studied and combining them into a customized program for my students.
As a dancer, I began my journey with zero formal training, discomfort in my own body, and physical awkwardness. After 10 years of learning to listen to my body, I now find great joy in just turning on a song and moving freely with no plan. I have gained so much self-confidence, which carries through to my "real life" beyond the dance studio. I have even competed and performed throughout the US, notably qualifying for the professional level in PSO in 2015.
As an instructor, I taught at Divine Movement in Seattle (now closed) for 5 years before I moved full time onto a boat. Now that I have an unconventional living situation, I am thrilled to be offering zoom lessons in a customized and individual format tailored to each of my students.
